I believe in a strong business climate that creates profitable companies that are also responsible "citizens". While I understand your points on a free market regulating itself, I'm not so sure that there is a proven basis for such a remark.

When the administration wanted to wiretap communication lines and listen in on conversations without following the existing laws, the first "citizens" to lay down were the big telecommunication companies. So in this instance I find it ironic that government actually cites "being fair" and "following the law" as the reasons for not officially charging bin Laden.

When the gun lobby groups demanded assistance from the government in protecting the industry from liability litigation Congress passed a liability protection law specific to the gun makers. Since that legislation was put in place Smith & Wesson has announced that they will be entering the consumer products and textiles business with their own line of kitchen appliances and clothing. So if a blender they make blows up in your face, well, too bad. That to me is unfair and is far removed from the free market condition. Do you think it would be possible to get laws like that passed today that favor the average tax payer?

Same sex marriage is not something uncommon, many people are opting it. Marriage is a matter of personal choice.

I would dearly love to see exactly how you or any of the other sanctimonious looters who decry the evil of the 'greedy corporations' would live without their products. Will you produce them yourselves? No.

It is only so called 'liberal' government interference and corruption that allows corruption in business. A free market would eliminate the crooks and looters in government, and that in turn would reduce or eliminate corruption in business.

You are missing the point. The debate is not at core a matter of discrimination. The basis of the debate is currently whether or not same sex marriage is moral. The debate needs to be shifted to the framework of whether a government can assign rights at all. It is axiomatic that they can not. You are born with every right you will ever have, beginning with your right to life. All other rights follow this basic premise. No body or government can establish something that you already have - all that they can do is limit it... or take it away entire.

[...] This race is of special interest because of the shameful performance of the GOP challenger Van Taylor on “Hard Ball” last week. I was recently traveling through this district and can gleefully report that I did not see one sign or billboard supporting Taylor, while Edwards signs were quite numerous. [...]

Wow, you'd think the UK would have a similar number of slain troups. It looks like we're carrying 92% of all troup deaths. How is it that we can lose so many and get so very little in return? I thought conservatives always went for a strong return on their investments. Oh yeah, I forgot: the war is profit enough for the Bushies.

My point, which you clearly missed, is that everytime the United States infringes on the rights of hard-working, tax paying citizens in this country, they are handing terrorists a small victory.

Dick Chenney views Americans exercising their right to elect the officials of their choice as handing terrorists a small victory.

Perhaps we should have a review of the U.S. Constitution just in case a few of us slept through our government classes in school. The rights of Americans are increasingly sacrificed in the name of the "war on terriorism", and we have very little to show for it.

The government has taken the step of listening to our phone calls, monitoring our emails, and who knows what else. But apparently, that is not enough for this administration. Now, they wish to use the results of a primary election to further criticize the selection voters make. Is this beginning of the next right to be sacrificed in the name of "terror"?

So please forgive me if I "whine" about having my rights taken away.

Funny. It's people like you who want to make sure terrorists are able to bring bombs or materials to make bombs on airplanes, by whining about being searched.
