‘Balloon Boy’ and Brothers Perform Offensive, Anti-Gay Rap

Just to confirm what I wrote recently about the continued parental rights of the Heene family in Colorado (“Balloon Boy Family”) — now comes news that a rap video has been uncovered where the boys in this family rap about the “pussification” of America.

Our moral bearings

On last week’s “60 Minutes” there was a disturbing story on a growing trend of “street fighting” videos. The typical arrangement is that a group of kids (or adults if they have no shame) pick a fight with each other in some public or private venue while others look on and record the fight on video. The video of the fight is then later sold as part of collection of other fights in video stores or distributed through a number of subscription websites.

But “60 Minutes” covered a new angle to this social problem by highlighting a new trend called “Bum Fight” where people (adults and teenagers) pay the homeless to fight one another or in some way perform a stupid stunt to harm themselves. The story covered a couple of teens in Canada that watched some of the “bum fight” videos and thought it would be fun to kidnap a homeless man and torture him for three days in the woods. The victim died as a result of this torture.

This is the type of phenomenon that requires moral leadership from every level of our governments. There is something wrong with a society that lacks the outrage to end this nonsense, but finds it appropriate to talk at length about what movie starts are sleeping with one another or what an actress wore to the Emmy Awards. Where are the religious leaders that our nation holds so dear on this topic? The lack of action by anyone on this topic only further demonstrates the dichotomy of our selective embracing of Christian values in this country.

Bush learns a new word

President Bush has doubled his vocabulary by learning a new word.

We can only hope he learns the word “moral” next.

Who Exactly is Morally and Intellectually Corrupt Here?

My anger at the Bush administraton has never been any higher than it was earlier in the week when Donald Rumsfeld (and the entire administration for that matter) pointed to those that oppose the war in Iraq, question the legal tactics of the administration in fighting the “war on terror”, or generally disagree with the administration as “morally and intellectually lacking”. And to use language like that in the same speech where he compared the disjointed group of thugs in Al Qaeda to the Nazis or worse leaves one to wonder exactly who he wants to do war with.

And then there are moments like these from Keth Olbermann that make me proud to be an American. The eloquence of his commentary is exactly what needed to be said. I can only hope and pray that more Americans see things the way Olbermann does and realize that unless the voters put an end to this regime this country will slip further into that abyss.

Where does Rick Santorum Live?

On Friday we learned that the school district in Rick Santorum’s neighborhood had been ordered to pay school tution for home schooling of Santorum’s children, even though they clearly live in Virgnia and not Pennsylvania.

Today, Tim Russert pressed Santorum to discuss where he presently lives. In typical Santorum style, he scrunches his face, shrugs his shoulders and acts as though it was a stupid question. And while I agree that it is not a question about his ethics (or lack thereof), or about his lock-step voting record with W, it is an important question since Santorum made it an issue in the 1994 election questioning why his Democratic opponent spent so much time outisde or Pennsylvania.
